Why browser-based album design software wins
For a long time, serious album design meant a desktop application. That made sense once, but it quietly imposed a model: your tool, your licence and your work all bound to one machine, with installs and updates to manage and a hard stop when you wanted to design somewhere else.
Browser-based album design software removes that model entirely. Cuppafolio runs in any modern browser, so the computer becomes incidental. There is nothing to download, the work is wherever you sign in, and onboarding an assistant takes a login rather than an install. The output is still a full print-ready PDF you own.
The difference is in what we deliberately leave out.
A narrow tool, an honest deal, and a file that is genuinely yours.
It runs in the browser
No installer, no licence keys, no per-machine setup. Open Cuppafolio in any modern browser and your work is exactly where you left it, on any computer.
You own the export
Every album leaves as a print-ready PDF with no watermark and no per-album unlock fee. It is a real deliverable you keep, not a file held hostage.
One flat price
From £19 a month, busy season or quiet. No counting albums, no metered exports, nothing to reconcile at the end of the month.
No install does not mean less capable
Running in the browser is about removing friction, not features. You still get designer templates, precise snapping to bleed, gutter, centre and neighbours, true lay-flat spreads and a genuine 300 DPI print-ready export with embedded fonts.
What you lose is the maintenance: no installer, no updates to chase, no OS-specific build, no licence to move when you change machines.

Installed software was the bottleneck
The album step should be the fun part. Too often the tooling gets in the way.
Album software stuck on the one machine it is installed on, while the work is everywhere else
Studio OS upgrades that quietly break the album app at the busiest week of the year
New team members losing two days to installs, licence sign-offs and IT tickets
A focused tool that does the album job brilliantly.
Everything you need for the album, nothing you don't, and the finished file is always yours.
Truly browser-based
If a browser opens, you can design.
Cuppafolio is a real web app — not a downloaded app pretending to be one, not a desktop tool wrapped in a window. There is nothing to install, no native version to keep updated, no per-machine licence.
OS-agnostic
Mac, Windows, ChromeOS, Linux. Same album.
Because the editor lives in the browser, the operating system stops mattering. The studio iMac, the home Windows laptop, the assistant's Chromebook — same tab, same projects, same exports.
Print-ready PDF
300 DPI. 3 mm bleed. Yours.
One click and a press-ready PDF lands in your downloads: 300 DPI, sRGB, embedded fonts, optional crop marks. No watermark, no expiry, no per-album unlock fee.
Flat pricing
One monthly price. No per-album fees.
From £19/month. Design as many albums as your plan allows for the same price every month, with no surprise charge when a busy season hits.
How browser-based album design works in Cuppafolio

- Drop in your selects; smart guides align every spread
- Export a print-ready PDF and send it to your lab

“We switched the whole studio over in a week. Everyone designs in the browser, the files are ours, and the bill is the same every month. Easy decision.”
Good questions, straight answers.
What do I need to run it?
A current browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox) on any modern Mac, Windows PC, ChromeOS device or Linux machine. There is nothing to download, install or licence; you sign in and design.
What happens to my project if my browser crashes?
Projects live in your Cuppafolio account, not in browser memory. A browser crash, a closed tab or a power cut never costs you the album — reopen the tab, sign in, and you are exactly where you were.
Can a new team member start designing on day one?
Yes. Onboarding a new designer is: send them an invite, they sign in on any computer, they design. There is no install pipeline, no licence allocation, no IT review of an installer .exe or .dmg. The Studio (£39) and Agency (£79) plans cover multi-photographer accounts.
Do I need fast internet?
A standard broadband or home-WiFi connection is fine. Cuppafolio uploads selects to your project then keeps state in the browser as you design, so the steady-state experience does not depend on a fast connection — the moment that uses bandwidth is the initial select upload.
Is the print-ready PDF the same in the browser as in desktop tools?
Yes. The PDF is generated to professional album-lab specification: 300 DPI, sRGB, 3 mm bleed, embedded fonts, optional crop marks. The browser is where you design; the file you export and own is identical to what a desktop tool would produce.
Does it work offline?
Cuppafolio is an online tool, so it needs a connection to design and export. The upside is that your work is never stuck on one offline machine and is available wherever you sign in.
