What “print-ready” has to actually mean

Plenty of tools will produce a PDF. Far fewer produce one a professional album lab will accept without a conversation, and fewer still let you keep it without a per-album unlock or a tie to one printer. For a working photographer, those details are the whole point of the export.

Cuppafolio is print-ready PDF album software in the strict sense. Every export is 300 DPI, sRGB, with 3 mm bleed, embedded fonts and optional crop marks, the exact specification labs expect. There is no watermark, no unlock fee and no obligation to print where you designed.

What sets us apart

The difference is in what we deliberately leave out.

A narrow tool, an honest deal, and a file that is genuinely yours.

You own the export

Every album leaves as a print-ready PDF with no watermark and no per-album unlock fee. It is a real deliverable you keep, not a file held hostage.

Any lab, no markup

We do not print or fulfil anything. Your PDF goes to the album supplier you already trust, with no print margin quietly skimmed along the way.

Smart guides do the fiddly part

Guides snap to bleed, gutter, centre and neighbouring photos, so spreads stay aligned and balanced without endless pixel-nudging.

Built to the spec your lab expects

Bleed, resolution, colour space and font handling are where albums fail at the lab. Cuppafolio fixes those by default: 3 mm bleed on every page, 300 DPI, sRGB colour and fonts embedded so type renders identically off your machine.

Crop marks are one toggle when a lab wants them. The result is a file you can hand over with confidence rather than hope.

The problem

“Export” should not come with strings

The album step should be the fun part. Too often the tooling gets in the way.

Files locked behind per-album unlock fees

Exports tied to one print supplier

Wondering whether the PDF will actually pass the lab's checks

The Cuppafolio way

A focused tool that does the album job brilliantly.

Everything you need for the album, nothing you don't, and the finished file is always yours.

Print-ready PDF

300 DPI. 3 mm bleed. Yours.

One click and a press-ready PDF lands in your downloads: 300 DPI, sRGB, embedded fonts, optional crop marks. No watermark, no expiry, no per-album unlock fee.

Any printer

Print at the lab you already trust.

We are not a print lab. Your PDF goes to whichever album supplier you love. No forced fulfilment, and no print markup baked into your margin.

Smart templates

Designer spreads, ready to fill.

Start from a layout you love and drop in your selects. Smart guides snap to bleed, gutter, centre and neighbours, so every page is balanced, every time.

Flat pricing

One monthly price. No per-album fees.

From £19/month. Design as many albums as your plan allows for the same price every month, with no surprise charge when a busy season hits.

How print-ready export works in Cuppafolio

The flow is deliberately short. There is no setup project, no render queue and no export wizard to fight. Getting from your selects to a file your lab accepts is a handful of steps.

  • Design the album from designer templates
  • Choose whether you need crop marks
  • Click export once for a press-ready PDF
  • Send the file to any professional album lab

I designed a 40-page wedding album in an afternoon, exported a PDF, and sent it straight to my usual lab. The whole thing felt lighter than any tool I'd used before.

Questions

Good questions, straight answers.

Will the PDF pass my lab's preflight?

Cuppafolio exports to the spec professional album labs expect: 300 DPI, sRGB, 3 mm bleed, embedded fonts and optional crop marks. You can run a real export during the 3-day free trial and send it to your lab to confirm before subscribing.

What exactly does the PDF contain?

A standard PDF/X-compatible file with every page at 300 DPI in sRGB, 3 mm bleed on all four sides, embedded TrueType/OpenType fonts (so type does not substitute at the lab) and optional crop marks. Open it in Preview, Adobe Acrobat or any standard PDF reader; lab proofing tools accept it natively.

Is the PDF watermarked or rate-limited per album?

No watermark on any export, ever. No per-album unlock fee. No 'pro version' upsell to reveal the export. The PDF you produce on the Solo £19/month plan is the same PDF an Agency £79/month subscriber produces — no feature tiering on output.

Do I really own the file or is there a licence I'm missing?

You own it. There is no Cuppafolio licence stamped into the PDF, no fulfilment lock, no proprietary format. The file is yours to send to any lab, archive on your own storage, or hand directly to the client as the digital companion to the printed book.

What if my lab needs a different bleed or colour space?

300 DPI sRGB with 3 mm bleed is the spec the vast majority of pro album labs use. If yours wants something different (CMYK, larger bleed, no crop marks), get in touch — most non-default lab requirements are configurable, and we expand the supported options based on real lab requests rather than guessing.

Is there a fee to unlock or download the file?

No. Export is included in your flat plan with no per-album unlock and no watermark. The PDF is a normal file you keep.
